Missions Update

How Far Do You Live From FBC?

Our family drives 15 miles to get to FBC. Google Maps shows roughly 100 churches within five miles of where we live. On the way to FBC, we pass within 1/2 mile of 57 churches. Why do we pass by all of them and keep going to FBC? For our family, there are three main reasons: (1) the relationships that we have at FBC,( 2) the commitment at FBC to preaching the truth from the Bible, and (3) the commitment and priority that FBC gives to missions. We have chosen to worship at FBC even though there are many choices of other churches.

However, that is not the case everywhere.

John and Susan Edwards and their daughter Esther are planning to return soon to Japan as missionaries. They have not decided where exactly they will locate, but one possibility is the Sendai area that was hit so badly by last year’s earthquake and tsunami. I did a quick Google Maps search of Sendai, and found there were only 8 churches within 5 miles of the city center of Sendai.

Alison Burns is planning to serve as a missionary in India. Google Maps shows about 30 churches within 5 miles of the city center of New Delhi. New Delhi has a population density of roughly 25,000 people per square mile. Irmo has a population density of 600 people per square mile.

The Edwards family and Alison are ready to go to these places, but they lack financial support. They cannot be sent out until they have raised the necessary finances to support themselves and their ministries. Where does that support come from? It comes from people like you and me. As you obey Luke 10:2 and ask the Lord of the Harvest to send out workers into His harvest field, ask Him if you can play a part in sending out workers.

Outreach Opportunity

Water on the Dam 2012

“You guys rock!” “Y’all are awesome!” “I’m so glad you’re out here! I needed that so badly.”

That is just a sampling of the comments we received last year as we gave out water to walkers and runners on the Lake Murray Dam. It’s a relatively easy and fun way to show Christ’s love and expand the visibility of Fellowship Bible Church, all at the same time.

Can you serve for one hour in June? You need to be able to walk a mile from the parking lot to the center of the dam, and then back to the parking lot after your one-hour shift. That is all it takes. We are planning to hand out water on the dam on four Saturday mornings in June: the 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. We will need volunteers to sign up for one-hour slots. More details will be coming soon. Questions? Contact Randy and Janice Thompson (ranandjan@sc.rr.com).
